DailyTech – 新しいトロイの木馬ウイルスは、ソーシャルネットワーキングサイトを介してMacコンピュータを攻撃

Security experts by and large agree that security via obscurity is not a wise model for protecting customers over the long term.  That’s exactly the model Apple has employed successfully for some time now.  However, its luck finally appears to be running short.

Hot on the heels of a newly discovered iOS exploit that allows access to locked iPhones, new reports [1] [2] from security research firms SecureFirm and Intego reveals that a new trojan is targeting Mac users using a vulnerability in OS X’s Java player.

According to the Intego report the new malware, trojan.osx.boonana.a, is really a reworked version of the Koobface malware, which has attacked Windows in the past.  The malware acts as a worm when it spreads and as a trojan when it is infecting your computer.

Users may encounter the worm via links posted on Facebook, マイスペース, Twitterの, and other websites.  When clicking the link, the applet attempts to run.  Users can stop the infection before it starts by denying the applet permission to run when OS X’s Java player pops up a dialogue.

GoogleのCEO: ストリートビューのようにしないでください? ‘移動’ – PCワールド

Google CEO Eric Schmidt has again kicked up something of an online firestorm with a statement about privacy.

In a CNN interview Monday, Schmidt responded to questions about what Google knows about people by saying that if people don’t like having their homes photographed for Google Street View for the world to see, they canjust move.

The comment came during an interview on the Parker Spitzer show. “With Street View, we drive by exactly once, so you can just move,” シュミット氏, eliciting uncomfortable laughter from interviewer Kathleen Parker. “The point is, we only do it once. This is not a monitoring situation.

Those few sentences stirred up the blogosphere, and various news sites erupted with stories about Schmidt apparently telling people they can move if they don’t like having their houses on Street View.

Guest Analysis: Due Diligence in the Era of Accountability 2.0

(Westlawビジネス) Following the collapse of Enron, WorldCom and several other major multi-national companies, the capital markets experienced the Era of Accountability 1.0, which included the passage of Sarbanes-Oxley (“Sarbox”) の 2002. Sarbox brought new standards for conduct and governance to public company boards of directors and officers, new and more stringent reporting requirements, stronger internal controls and stiffer penalties for non-compliance. It also influenced the focus and depth of M&A due diligence standards, which began to take deeper dives into issues of financial reporting, objectivity and verification.

Less than a short eight years later, we have entered the Era of Accountability 2.0. The election of Barack Obama and the Administration’s commitment to transparency, the role of government in bailouts, including TARP, the failure of banks and automobile companies, the Madoff scandal, the severe global recession and mistrust in Wall Street collectively are contributing to an increase in staffing at the Securities and Exchange Commission (証券取引委員会), the expectation of vigorous government enforcement activities in a variety of areas, and the possibility of new GAAP standards. These evolving developments in turn are elevating, expanding and refining the portfolio of due diligence best practices in M&A, financing and other core business transactions.

I am not implying that graduation from 1.0 に 2.0 involves a tectonic shift in due diligence best practices. のM&A practices and documentation generally are continuing to evolve in small increments. There are occasional exceptions, such as the fairly rapid and widespread move to electronic data rooms. And responses to sweeping legislative and regulatory developments are necessarily fast-paced. The adaptation of acquisition agreements and processes to the pre-acquisition notification requirements of the U.S. Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Acts of 1976 is a notable example.

The government intervention of the last year triggered in large part by excesses that exploited a flawed regulatory regime is so sweeping, fueled by intense and enduring public outrage, that due diligence best practices inevitably will respond to the challenges of a more highly regulated economy in which buyers and sellers must live under the microscope of vigorous government enforcement and intense public scrutiny. This response in large part should encompass a reaffirmation of existing best practices. 従って, much of our discussion below emphasizes these practices as prevailing in the Era of Accountability 1.0. Although the anticipated changes in practices are likely to be incremental, in the context of ever-expanding government regulation and enforcement activities, the new environment merits a 2.0 designation.

(Westlawビジネス) Private luxury submarines and high seas escapes have become just another plotline in anthology of Dubai-centric litigation. Court dockets belie Dubai’s image of listless camels shuffling along the beach while spiky skyscrapers puncture the clouds. As much as palm trees and man-made islands, local color in the Gulf city-state has been shaded by characters and deals lurking in court filings that continue to capture the interest of gossips and gawkers around the world.

A malleable media and a fetish for the fantastic keep images of Dubai not only in American headlines, but American courts as well. Often the nexus is some iconic piece of real estate; sometimes a staggering some of money is involved. In still others, “facts” alleged in court pleadings hijack the imagination of what life must be like in the Emirati fast lane. Doubtless in the retelling, some embellishment must cling to the narrative. Along the U.S.- Dubai Axis of Velcro, しかし、, the exaggeration overwhelms the substance.

Case in point: Dubai World Corp. で. Jaubert, a suit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, where Dubai World has sued erstwhile submarine mastermind Herve Jaubert:

In this action, Dubai World seeks to recover the millions of dollars it lost as a result of Defendant Herve Jaubert’s (“Jaubert”) wrongful conduct as CEO of Exomos, a personal luxury submarine business that Jaubert led to financial disaster. As set forth in the Complaint, Jaubert fraudulently induced Dubai World to hire him as CEO of this new business by falsely representing himself as an expert in the design and construction of submarines. He then misused his position as CEO to funnel millions of dollars in improper payments back to a company owned by him and his wife (Defendant Seahorse) and then ultimately failed to produce any viable submarines for which payment had been made.

When confronted with mounting evidence of his wrongdoing and Jaubert fled Dubai and returned to Florida. Upon his return, he began a scheme to extort money from Dubai World by seeking millions is payments toburythe publication of a book, Escape from Dubai, which would purport to be an account of his life story. When the extortion scheme fell apart, Jaubert published the book anyway, and filled its pages with a derogatory and inflammatory narrative concerning Dubai World and its principals, as well as Dubai, its citizens, 政府, 文化, religion and society.1

Adobeは、iPadの配信のためにデジタル出版スイートを明らかにする

今週, at its annual worldwide conference, Adobe Systems (new,サイト) revealed their new Digital Publishing Suite. The package aims to help publishers create, publish and sell digital content targeted at mobile devices. Even with Apple’s Steve Jobs’ public disdain for Flash, Adobe seems determined to lead the mobile publishing market.

Examining the Suite

Adobe has created an integrated platform that allows designers to use existing tools like InDesign CS5, PDF and HTML5 to create interactive digital content in magazine form. Adobe  took lessons learned from creating digital editions for clients such as the New Yorker and designed the system to integrate easily into the existing workflow processes for customers already using products like InDesign.

Publishers can take content from their print publications and supplement it with interactive features to provide a new digital experience for their customers. 最初, the product will only support distribution to Apple iPad, but eventually it will be extended to support additional platforms.

GlaxoSmithKline whistleblower awarded $96m payout | ビジネス | guardian.co.uk

A whistleblower who exposed serious contamination problems at GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) pharmaceutical manufacturing operations has been awarded $96m (£60m).

Cheryl Eckard’s payment is thought to be the biggest ever handed to a US whistleblower. It was awarded after an eight-year fight, which ended yesterday, when GSK agreed to pay the US government $750m to settle civil and criminal charges that it manufactured and sold adulterated drug products.

Speaking outside the federal courthouse in Boston after the award was agreed, Eckard admitted she wasa little emotional”.

It’s difficult to survive this financially, emotionally, you lose all your friends, because all your friends are people you have at work,” と彼女は言った. “You really do have to understand that it’s a very difficult process but very well worth it.

The case centred on a factory in Cidra, プエルトリコ, where GSK made a range of products including an antibiotic ointment for babies, and drugs to treat nausea, depression and diabetes. 月の 2002, Eckard, a global quality assurance manager, led a team sent to the plant to investigate manufacturing violations that had been identified by the US Federal Drugs Administration (FDA). Are Apple’s iPhone and iPad relevant to enterprises? – PCワールド

The conventional wisdom is that enterprises aren’t impressed by Apple’s shiny iDevices, perceiving them as a consumer play. Is that a fair assessment? And if so, could it change in the foreseeable future? Let’s take a look, in The Long View

When it comes to business phonesso the theory goesBlackBerry and Windows are still top-of-mind. When it comes to larger form factors, businesses supposedly want conventional notebooks, not iPadsbut they may be swayed by Windows tablets that are compatible with software they already use.
