Southwest, AirTran get second US request on deal | Reuters

Southwest Airlines Co (LUV.N) said on Tuesday it received a second request for information from the U.S. Justice Department’s antitrust division about its proposed acquisition of rival AirTran Holdings Inc (AAI.N).

Both carriers said they are gathering information to respond to the second request, a common part of the regulatory approval process as the government reviews the purchase. In the case of larger mergers, a second request is often called for.

Southwest and AirTran’s statement said they still expect the deal to be completed in the 2011 first half, though a definitive closing date cannot yet be determined.
