Google CEO Eric Schmidt has again kicked up something of an online firestorm with a statement about privacy.
In a CNN interview Monday, Schmidt responded to questions about what Google knows about people by saying that if people don’t like having their homes photographed for Google Street View for the world to see, they can “just move.”
The comment came during an interview on the Parker Spitzer show. “With Street View, we drive by exactly once, so you can just move,” 施密特說：, eliciting uncomfortable laughter from interviewer Kathleen Parker. “The point is, we only do it once. This is not a monitoring situation.”

As much as palm trees and man-made islands, local color in the Gulf city-state has been shaded by characters and deals lurking in court filings that continue to capture the interest of gossips and gawkers around the world.
A malleable media and a fetish for the fantastic keep images of Dubai not only in American headlines, but American courts as well. Often the nexus is some iconic piece of real estate; sometimes a staggering some of money is involved. In still others, “facts” alleged in court pleadings hijack the imagination of what life must be like in the Emirati fast lane. Doubtless in the retelling, some embellishment must cling to the narrative. Along the U.S.- Dubai Axis of Velcro, 不過, the exaggeration overwhelms the substance.
Case in point: Dubai World Corp. 在. Jaubert, a suit in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, where Dubai World has sued erstwhile submarine mastermind Herve Jaubert:
In this action, Dubai World seeks to recover the millions of dollars it lost as a result of Defendant Herve Jaubert’s (“Jaubert”) wrongful conduct as CEO of Exomos, a personal luxury submarine business that Jaubert led to financial disaster. As set forth in the Complaint, Jaubert fraudulently induced Dubai World to hire him as CEO of this new business by falsely representing himself as an expert in the design and construction of submarines. He then misused his position as CEO to funnel millions of dollars in improper payments back to a company owned by him and his wife (Defendant Seahorse) and then ultimately failed to produce any viable submarines for which payment had been made.
When confronted with mounting evidence of his wrongdoing and Jaubert fled Dubai and returned to Florida. Upon his return, he began a scheme to extort money from Dubai World by seeking millions is payments to “bury” the publication of a book, Escape from Dubai, which would purport to be an account of his life story. When the extortion scheme fell apart, Jaubert published the book anyway, and filled its pages with a derogatory and inflammatory narrative concerning Dubai World and its principals, as well as Dubai, its citizens, 政府, 文化, religion and society.1

The latest U.S. Patent and Trademark Office innovation is a deal to work with the European Patent Office on a joint patent classification system aligned with global standards.
In an Oct. 22 joint announcement, the two agencies said they plan to create a patent classification system aligned with the World Intellectual Property Organization’s International Patent Classification system.
The agencies also announced that, while they will base the joint system on the European Patent Office (促紅細胞生成素) 標準的, it will also incorporate the best practices of both offices.

Microsoft today launched Office for Mac 2011, the newest version of its application suite designed for Mac OS X.
One analyst immediately dubbed it “the best Office ever.”
Office 2011 is Microsoft’s f辦公室or the Mac since January 2008. Microsoft added the once-scorned “ribbon” interface that debuted in Windows’ Office 2007, dropped the Entourage e-mail client in favor of a Mac flavor of Windows’ 展望, and restored Visual Basic-based macros.
Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg said the new suite is Microsoft’s most impressive suite effort to date.
“This is the best Office ever, not just on the Mac,” said Gartenberg. “It brings the Mac version to parity with the Windows version, but it still feels like Mac software, not a Windows port. Mac Office doesn’t feel like you walked into your house in the dark and someone rearranged all the furniture.”
Several new or restored features in Office for Mac 2011 were long requested by veteran users, particuarly a closer cousin to Windows’ Outlook and the return of macros. Both were especially important for IT staffers who had to figure out how to integrate Macs into their organizations and users bent on having tools equal to their Windows brethren.
